Nicholas Malizia

Journalist

I am a Trainee Reporter at Edinburgh Live in Edinburgh, Scotland and former News Editor at The Student, the University of Edinburgh's student newspaper and the oldest student paper in Europe.

While I was News Editor, The Student won Best Publication 2024 at the Student Publication Association (SPA) National Conference Awards, with the judge commending the quality of our investigations and hyperlocal news coverage.

My content includes investigations and breaking news. I introduced multimedia to The Student for the first time, having co-created The Student Podcast with my output including interviews with MPs and Edinburgh Uni Vice Chancellor Peter Mathieson. One of my investigations was nominated for Best Investigation in 2024 by SPA. I was also shortlisted for News Writer of the Year at the Herald's Student Press Awards in 2024.

I have completed work experiences at news outlets including The National, Edinburgh Live, and the Daily Express.

When I graduated from Penn State University in 2022, my Honors Thesis in English was named Runner Up to Best Thesis in the Humanities by the College of Liberal Arts. I was also awarded grant funding by the University to hike the Appalachian Trail for the project.
